Your garden of Love Evaluation Paper

Romantic poet person William Blake's The Garden of affection is one of the 26 poems contained in his Tunes of Experience collection. The poem tells of William Blake's visit to the Garden of Love, a place where he spent most of his childhood. Very much to his dismay, what stands of the once-beautiful garden can be described as church, together with a graveyard the place that the beautiful plants once were. The poem criticizes organized religion and how that limits man happiness and joy using its oppressive rules. For these reasons the poem received widespread criticism from many, especially the Catholic Church, due to its direct critique of organized faith and religion. Irrespective of being a brief poem, Bill Blake incorporates several stylistic devices into his poem to convey and emphasize his message to the reader. One of these is alliteration. In The Garden of Love, Blake often uses alliteration to draw awareness of the issues he has with organized faith, the Catholic faith especially. The most notable usage of alliteration is definitely the last brand of the composition " And binding with briars, my personal joys and desires” (12) Knowing that a briar is a weed with a thorny control, Blake is trying to tell the reader how prepared faith intertwines itself, such as a briar, in the lives of its individuals, only to destroy and oppress everything that they will enjoy and desire. Bill Blake artistically rhymes briars and desires in an effort to set more focus on how the House of worship has flipped his child years source of love, happiness, and joy in a place of death and give up hope. In the last stanza of the poem we see repeated use of anaphora. Blake repeats " and”, followed by a source of his unhappiness with what has become in the Garden of affection as a means of listing how a Church has ruined his garden. The poem concludes by stating " And binding with briars, my own joys and desires. " (12)
