Huckleberry Finn and The Heurter in the Rye essay

The novels ‘The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn' and ‘The Catcher in the Rye' are both set in times where the objectives of culture differed from the ones more recently. Huckleberry Finn is set back in the 1800s, pre USA city war and in a time in which slavery was an accepted happening and the escape of a slave was known as legally and morally incorrect. This was also a time in which usually church presence and education were seen as tokens of respectability. A new boy, the eponymous character, Huck, looks for to reject all that he regards since oppressive and cruel in order to establish an alternative life as being a wanderer, not even close to adult control. ‘The Catcher in the Rye', on the other hand, was set in the late 1940s, a time when ever teenagers had been just beginning gain their own lives and being allowed more independence than ever before. The picaresque new gives the reader an insight in to middleclass existence in Nyc in the 50s and how one particular boy experienced trapped by expectations of his father and mother and school. His period of comparative flexibility leads to sudden consequences as he falls sufferer to depressive disorder and ultimate supervision in an institution, adding paid permanently to his dreams of liberty. Both novels present the themes of freedom and escape plus the selected components portray situations in the characters' lives which usually focus on this kind of theme. In both of the extracts, the characters will be pretending to be someone else, Huckleberry Finn a young girl and Holden Caulfield taking a false identification. The reader may infer from this that by simply assuming a different and fake identification, the two kids can break free from their own lives; kinds that are packed with problems and worries.
